At J R Franklin Landscapes, we believe that a great garden is about more than simply completing a job. It is about creating an outdoor space that is carefully considered, beautifully finished and built to stand the test of time.

We offer a wide range of soft and hard landscaping services, from groundworks and structural elements through to planting and the finer finishing details. Whatever the size or style of the project, we take pride in approaching every job with the same level of care and attention.

Where It All Began

My passion for landscaping and horticulture started at a very young age.

I grew up in the small village of East Chisenbury, on the edge of the Salisbury Downs, where I spent a great deal of time outdoors. From around the age of four, I developed a fascination with horticulture through spending time with my grandparents. They introduced me to the fundamentals of gardening, from taking cuttings and growing seeds to maintaining and caring for gardens.

Alongside my interest in plants, I also discovered a passion for building and creating things. I enjoyed constructing projects in the garden, including sheds, greenhouses and fences. Looking back, these early experiences played a huge part in shaping the direction I would eventually take.

The Details Make the Difference

One of the things that sets J R Franklin Landscapes apart is our approach to the finer details.

I am naturally very meticulous and consider myself a perfectionist when it comes to my work. I believe that it is often the small details that make the biggest difference to the finished result.

From the preparation and construction through to the final planting and finishing touches, we take the time to make sure every aspect of a project is completed to a high standard.

For us, it is not simply about getting the job finished. It is about being proud of the finished landscape.

From Passion to Profession

After finishing school, I went on to study Horticulture and Landscaping at Lackham College, where I was able to develop my knowledge and practical skills further.

During my studies, I took part in WorldSkills UK 2019, competing in a landscaping competition where we were tasked with designing and constructing a small show garden. I was delighted to achieve second place and a silver medal — an experience that challenged me, developed my skills and reinforced my passion for the industry.

After completing college, I spent around a year working at a garden centre before deciding in early 2020 to take the next step and start my own business, J R Franklin Landscapes.

What began as a small business gradually grew through hard work, recommendations and a commitment to delivering quality workmanship. As the business developed, I was fortunate enough to bring my sister on board full-time, allowing us to continue growing while maintaining the personal approach that has always been important to us.
